This weekend marked two great events. Mike and Heather celebrated their marriage (above, right) and Gary celebrated his retirement (sort of, with the “this is not a retirement party” pig roast) (below). Unfortunately, the two great events were the same day and we can’t all be two places at once, but we can still share the love (and get photos). As you’ll see from the two pictures, the age-structure at the two events was non-overlapping — some great scientists and artists near the starts of their careers…and some also great scientists much closer to (and perhaps beyond) the end of their careers. It’s a pretty neat juxtaposition. The photo below is largely a portion of the (in)famous pond lab crew (dating from the 1980’s) celebrating with Gary at Earl’s lake. The younger crowd is a great combination of UF, UGA, UCSB, and Moorea friends (post 2000’s) coming together to celebrate with Mike and Heather in CA.
